Artist-Educator Philosophy

Battle of Bound Brook

Artists who are accomplished in their own art form or discipline and who are experienced educators have vast resources to share with school communities-students, parents, and teachers. Artists can communicate an idea in multiple formats-visual, verbal, or through movement and sound. Artists can help students understand that ideas develop over time and through the exploration of materials and processes. Well-trained teaching artists enable students to make conceptual connections between disciplines; bring cultural and historical perspectives to a lesson, and help the learner make the important personal connection to the ideas they are exploring.
